Osteospermum, the ultimate sun worshipper
When it comes to sun worshippers, Osteospermum, also known as African Daisy or Cape Daisy, absolutely takes the cake.
Did you know that these flowers go to sleep every night and wake up at dawn? They love the sun so much that the blooms close as soon as it gets dark. But not to worry: come dawn, its gorgeous brightly coloured flowers will open up again.
Osteospermum has the basic shape that we know so well from many flowers. If you ask a child to draw a flower, it will usually have the same shape as the blooms of this plant. They are symmetrically round, with a perfect, almost divine proportion, the 'Divina Proportia’. What's more, the flowers are also surprisingly colourful, and will make any garden sparkle.
